Windows Server 2016 היא מערכת הפעלה לשרתים המפותחת[1] על ידי מיקרוסופט כחלק ממשפחת Windows NT של מערכות הפעלה, במקביל לחלונות 10. גרסה מוקדמת תצוגתית (Technical Preview) פורסמה ב-1 באוקטובר 2014 ביחד עם התצוגה הטכנית הראשונה של System Center,[2] מערכת ההפעלה שוחררה לציבור באוקטובר 2016,[3] כלומר, בנפרד ולא בו זמנית עם מערכת ההפעלה Windows 10 שמיועדת למחשבי PC, כמו במקרה של שלושת מערכת ההפעלה הקודמות לה.

תכונות

Windows Server 2016 מכיל מגוון רחב של תכונות חדשות, כולל:

  • Active Directory Federation Services: ניתן להגדיר AD FS כדי לאמת משתמשים שאינם מאוחסנים בספריות AD, כגון תומכי X. 500 Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (או LDAP) וכן ספריות מסדי נתונים של SQL.[4]
